    Update:

    I checked the project files out on an older machine, which still had
    the XCode 2.5
    and WebObjects 5.3 installed. After a little fiddling, the web service
    assistant started.

    On the same machine, with Eclipse 3.3 and WOLips, it failed. This
    suggests that it's
    either WO5.4 or WOLips or both that breaks it.

    Help much appreciated!
