Here's some interesting info about Eclipse p2 (the install/update
system in Eclipse 3.4):
http://wiki.eclipse.org/Equinox_p2_Getting_Started
Interestingly, previous versions of eclipse had weird problems if I
tried to run them with a read-only Eclipse folder. Now it "does the
right thing" (TM) and writes all your updates into your home directory
in ./eclipse/<version>/xxx . So finally you can do a /Developer/
Application/Eclipse install that doesn't require write access.
