Agreed. Actually the OS X convention is to install into ~/Applications
or, assuming you've got permission, into /Applications. The standard
OS X installer allows you to choose another location - but where
necessary prompts for a password. Personally, I think it would be
better to follow this convention.
The /Developer dir is theoretically reserved for the installs from the
Apple developer tools dvd/cd/image and could be blown away by an
update/reinstall and as such is not safe or standard.
